CNC Machine Tools Success Stories

QPE advances their world class machining capability

QPE Advanced Machining, located in Adelaide South Australia, specialises in precision machined parts and assemblies for industries including aerospace, defence, medical, electronics, mining, and renewable energy. QPE provides quality assured production incorporating processes for CNC machining, assembly, inspection, validation and traceability.

QPE was established in 1994 and became an alliance partner of the Precise Advanced Manufacturing Group (PAMG) of companies in 2006

PAMG is a group of networked and synergistic advanced manufacturing businesses offering individual services such as additive manufacturing, component supply, precision machined assemblies, mould and die manufacture, fabrication etc, however their competitive advantage lies in their ability to assist clients take their concept through to a final product ready for sale.

Through PAMG, QPE can provide customers with a seamless integrated service of advanced manufacturing services including:

  • Design, engineering, prototyping,
  • Precision Machining
  • Mould, die and automation manufacture,
  • Fabrication
  • Part manufacture and assembly,
  • Commercialisation, route to market and regulatory advice.

QPE has at its disposal an impressive inventory of precision machining equipment including a fleet of Mazak CNC machine tools, boasting 4, 5 and 7 axis multitasking and mill-turn machines. In order to further advance their already impressive capabilities and to secure two defence contracts, QPE recently invested in a Mazak Quick Turn 350MY.

Kym Browning, John Hart’s South Australia Branch Manager commented: “We were invited to offer a solution from the Mazak range, and we suggested the Quick Turn 350MY because it met or exceeded many of the customer’s requirements: well designed, robust, high quality, mill-turn capability, high torque spindle, accuracy, ease of programming.”

Grant Tinney, Chief Executive QPE Advanced Machining said: “We are a high-end defence supplier and we absolutely have to deliver on time and consistent high quality. We were considering submissions from more than one machine tool company, but the Mazak Quick Turn 350MY proved to be the best choice for our requirements. It has a very high finish capability reducing the requirement for secondary operations and high torsional stiffness leading to superior accuracies, while programming with the advanced SmoothG controller is quick and easy.”

The Mazak Quick Turn 350MY is a CNC turning center with multi-function capability, and brings together high performance and high accuracy to deliver exceptional productivity and value. As an (MY) configuration, the machine features milling capability and Y-axis functionality along with a standard through-hole chuck package, and an integral turning spindle motor to process a wide range of medium or larger diameter parts in a single setup. The machine comes equipped with the SmoothG CNC that features Mazatrol conversational programming and EIA-ISO programming.

Grant concluded: “Combine the capabilities of the Mazak with the world class service and consistent long-term support by highly competent staff from John Hart and the Quick Turn 350MY was a clear choice.”
