As part of a wider investment strategy focused on expanding their capability, Whitty Engineering has invested in another Mazak, a Quick Turn 350MY.

Featuring an integral turning spindle motor and a 1500U bed length, Whitty’s Mazak Quick Turn 350MY multi-tasking CNC turning center combines milling capability and Y-axis functionality with advanced technology, productivity and value to deliver exceptional performance.

For part-processing versatility, the machine provides a maximum machining diameter of 430 mm and a maximum workpiece length of 1545 mm for the 1500U machine.

Sporting a bar diameter capacity of 102 mm, the main spindle, with a 12” diameter chuck, has a 30 kW motor and maximum speed of 3,300 rpm. The rotary tool turret spindle is 7.5 kW with a maximum speed of 5,000 rpm and 12-tool capacity. A CNC tailstock employs a servo motor and ball screw for precise movements, providing the flexibility to process either heavy, large-diameter or long, thin workpieces.

The machine is equipped with the SmoothG CNC that includes MAZATROL conversational programming as well as EIA-ISO programming capabilities. The control incorporates a wide variety of advanced CNC programming functions that allow it to offer complete ease of use and ensure high-speed, high-accuracy CNC machining performance.

Whitty’s Quick Turn has also been fitted with a Bartec Rapidfeed 102 barfeeder.

Whitty makes continual investments in state-of-the-art plant and machinery. To that effect Whitty has another Mazak investment in the pipeline, a VCN-600 high-performance vertical machining center with a generous working envelope. Stay tuned for that story.
