Unlocking lights out production for Melvelle

To showcase the power of their lights out manufacturing capability, Melvelle recorded this video footage at night, capturing their John Hart automated machining cell operating entirely unmanned.

Newcastle-based rail maintenance equipment manufacturer Melvelle Equipment Corp is basking in the benefits of automated, unattended manufacturing with their John Hart automated machining cell featuring a Mazak Integrex i-450H S multi-tasking machine integrated with an Agile Robotic Systems machine tending solution.

The seamless integration of Mazak’s advanced multi-tasking technology, and Agile’s robotic automation enables high-precision production to run continuously around the clock, long after the factory lights have been switched off and staff have gone home.

The Agile machine tending system features a powerful Fanuc R2000iC/270F robot equipped with large-capacity back-to-back pneumatic grippers. Capable of handling heavy components up to 100 kg (220 lbs) with diameters reaching 380 mm (15”), the robotic automation eliminates the heavy lifting and ergonomic risks previously associated with manually loading large parts.

With the lights out capability, Melvelle can comfortably meet surging demand while leveraging the high precision, reliability, and automated efficiency delivered by John Hart’s world-class automated machining cell.
