Mazak Laser Automation Systems

Fab Shop

Fab Shop with OPTOPATH

Mazak Fab Shop Optopath

Mazak Optonics Corporation’s advanced Fab Shop and OPTOPATH system, increases capacity and productivity, while preventing cutting failures from occurring. Unsurpassed gains in productivity are achieved by running for extended periods of time in operator unattended mode. By reducing downtime and eliminating causes of cutting failure before they occur, the system reaches utilization capacities as high as 80 to 90 percent.

Operations performed automatically by Fab Shop and OPTOPATH include advanced material handling and parts sorting systems, such as Material Stockers, Magnetic Sheet Separators, Scrap Conveyors, Finished Worksheet table, Vacuum Pick-up Pads, and Parts Sorting, the system reaches unheard-of production capacities.

Programmable simultaneous 10 axes robot that automatically sorts both large and small workpieces and stacks them on pallets

Mazak Smart System

Mazak Smart System
An integral part of the Fab Shop Type A and OPTOPATH System is Mazak’s Smart System software. This PC-based CAD/CAM system streamlines the entire process, dramatically reducing the time from order to production. Import a CAD file or quickly create one using the software features. Use it to optimize part nesting or to automatically program the OPTOPATH pick pads. Mazak Smart System software is loaded with features to make your job easier.

Laser FMS

Laser FMS

Mazak Laser FMS

This laser Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) is world-renowned for helping fabricators achieve competitiveness. The largest variable in manufacturing costs around the globe is related to labour. Mazak FMS drives so much direct labour from the cutting and handling processes that fabricators everywhere can compete.

The FMS consists of a high-capacity material storage tower to store and retrieve up to ten different sheet specifications, a pneumatic load system to accurately position the sheet, and several versions of automatic unload depending on your applications. Once the raw material is loaded in the tower, the complete operation to finished part requires no labor. Its high capacity allows for complete shifts or weekends of operator unattended production.
Our line controller software is comprehensive yet easy to learn and use. Automatically, it:

  • Locates material for the next job
  • Directs material retrieval while lasers continue cutting
  • Selects the appropriate laser and downloads nested cutting programs for storage in the CNC control
  • Schedules and sequences up to four lasers for optimal utilization.
  • Alerts factory personnel to problems
  • Provides comprehensive production reports

The flexibility to go from one nest to another and select materials and thickness, without new setups, distinguishes the Mazak Laser FMS.

Laser CMS

Laser CMS

Mazak Laser CMS

Cyber Manufacturing System (CMS) from Mazak takes factory automation and efficiency to a new level for fabricators.  An extension of our proven FMS philosophy for global competitiveness, CMS compresses programming time further, organizes picking, stacking, and grouping of finished parts.  Further, it communicates with its downstream "customers" within the factory walls to ensure the right parts at the right time, every time.

Mazak's SMART SYSTEM seamlessly integrates CAD files, calculates bend allowances, issues drawings, and job instruction sheets.  It also converts drawings into CNC codes automatically and performs nesting for maximum yield.

Once the parts are cut, CMS uses our unique OPTOPATH system to pick each part, stack it with like parts on pallets.  It even discards the remaining skeleton into a recycling bin, freeing operators for more productive tasks and removing them from a potentially dangerous job.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.  CMS can revolutionize not just your laser cutting, but your entire operation.

Load/Unload cells

Load / Unload Cell

Mazak HyperGear with Load/Unload Cell

Fast, efficient, pneumatic LOAD UNLOAD SYSTEM automatically picks up a single sheet of material at a time, positions it correctly on the laser, then automatically stacks the cut sheets.

A load unit picks up an uncut sheet from the queue station and delivers it to the laser. However, the load and unload units travel together on the same monorail. More compact and efficient than separate carriers, this one-pass system shortens laser-idle time, plus minimizes adjustments and maintenance.

It is critical that the loader deliver only a single sheet to the laser. Mazak's system incorporates a magnetic fanner, a double-sheet separator, and a suction cup that pulls a corner of the top sheet away from a stack, and in addition, sensors confirm that only a single sheet has been selected. If the sensors detect a double thickness, they can stop the system and sound an alarm.

Once cutting is finished, closely spaced tines on 5 mm centres pick up cut sheets and carry them to the unload table. It handles any part geometry including small parts, any material thickness up to 7.5/10 mm" and any material type, including non-ferrous — with no additional setup.
